For years, I have operated a coffee shop in Jeonju Hanok Village. As I wanted to provide those enjoying their vacation with more suitable accommodation, I opened Goyu close to my café.
I was so captivated by this house at first sight. As it was built in 1956, when I was born, I felt a kind of kinship. ‘Goyu’ means ‘May and June’ in Korean.
The house faces south, having the doors in the east—which is regarded as the most ideal floor plan. I like sitting on the expansive wooden porch on a sunny day for tea. We merely remodeled convenient amenities. Rafters and girders are in their original state, because old materials are still robust. Crooked lumber showcases the beauty of curves.
I hope our guests will remember the time drinking tea at our front porch tearoom.
