Since I was in high school 50 years ago, I have written poems. My initial plan was to open a poetry café. Made of pine trees and clay, my Hanok (traditional Korean house) is healthy and sustainable. Even before construction was completed, people contacted me regarding accommodation. So, I decided to share my space with travelers who wish to stay here.
My daughter’s calligraphy teacher gave her the nickname ‘Geumwon.’ That is how the name ‘Geum Won Dang’ was created. This guesthouse embraces my affection for her and also my poetic sentiment.
I was shy to hang my poems on the wall at first, but I anticipate that these would make my out-of-town guests feel welcome. I hope Geum Won Dang will be remembered as an eco-friendly, literary house.
Geum Won Dang in Jeonju Hanok Village is a comforting and inspirational place.
